i'm sure a lot of people are hooked on the progression that the animals used, the one Dave Van Ronk invented and Dylan copied before the Animals. This one is more of my idea of how Ramblin' Jack Elliot would cover Woody Guthrie's version, since I'm such a huge fan of Ramblin' Jack. Maybe he did do a version, but I've never heard it, so if anyone knows of one tell me where to find it.

  • @qiovanni yes, in the original version the father was a tailor, and the singer's sweetheart was a drunkard or gambler or gambling man. I kind of liked the idea, so not to sing it as a woman, of changing it to say my father was a tailor, a respectable profession, and me I'm just a gambler.
