This is a somewhat David and Goliath story. It is safe to say that a GH2 does not belong on a film set but with some care and stable hacking, this little cam does what it does. I was extremely careful conducting these tests. Every shot was focus assisted, all apertures matched and each cam was on its highest setting. No effects were added or taken away. White balance was adjusted and so were the levels to match each other. Please leave constructive comments. This is an evolving industry full of challengers, large and small, old and new. • Would be interesting for you to carry out the test with the new 2012 hacks at higher bitrates. You'll never get the depth of field of the red because of the small sensor but the extra bitrate will make a difference.

  • Gh2 looked better to me since you could fit more of the image in, an (gh's are known for that) and the RED was sharper but not DOUBLE resolution sharper, more like NO CONSUMER or even person in a theater would ever notice sharper. My studio is sending a feature length film to Cannes, all shot on a pair of GH1s and separate audio, check out the theatrical trailer on our channel, the post look of even the gh1 blows RED out of the water.

  • @eljin00 epic answer. :))

    or like you did,gh2 answer.

  • @shane8109 after spending so much on a camera

  • Love my gh2. I don't think I would get a red even though it's a great camera the investment in accessories cost too much

"this is my first digital cam so I don't have anything to compare. I chose this over sony handycam because of higher pixel in video and photo mode even though sony rave about thier lenses. well, it definately is not close to high def, but it is a good quality image, and easy to use. the manual shows they offer 4 different batteries for ..."

  • Interesting test! With due respect to both your test and the Panasonic GH2, I think the Red's lens must have issues. It would be fantastic to reshoot the test with THE SAME lens on each cam, for example a prime Nikkor, or otherwise - and with the same aperture set for each. THEN any sharpness differences would be due solely to the cam.

  • Mark my word I will have one of these bugger within the next month - Just got the Sandisk card!!

  • You have one superlative lens there paired with the GH2. The Zuiko Digital 35-100 f2 lens is legendary in it sharpness and is well known in the Four Thirds still photographer community.

  • This test is epic,Oh wait GH2.
