In partnership with the Council on Foreign Relations and the Tribeca Film Festival, Google Ideas convened Illicit Networks: Forces in Opposition (or the INFO summit) in Los Angeles, California. Illicit networks are often only seen in the silos of those who study them, and through this initiative we hope to raise global awareness, and inspire and launch tangible projects and outputs to address this challenge.

Note the two little words "and suffer". Suddenly, it's not bullshit.

To all those who say "well 150 000 ppl day every day not millions". They said AND suffers so include everyone that suffers from illegal gun trade, drugs and trafficking. We have the obvious child soldiers, the family to them. Regarding drugs and trafficking we have people addicted to drugs (yes they do suffer), kidnapped women that are sold of as whores, their family etc etc. So yes probably millions dies AND suffers everyday because of illicit networks.

Yes, at 3:00 "Millions die and suffer every day at the cost of illicit networks." I'm not sure how anyone dies and suffers at the cost of anything but given a global death rate of about 150,000 a day those illicit networks must be much bigger than we think. They must have whole child prostitute drug slave nike ipad factory nations that nobody knows about.

This reminds me a bit of KONY 2012 as a sham manipulative video but with less focus and reality. The absurd conflation of things like child soldiers, slavery, prostitution and global narco traffic is just that, absurd. Why not throw in child labor in Asia as well as toxic infant formula in China too. What kind of morons would be OUTRAGED by this kind of manipulative BS? If you really want to take on things like global narco traffic start by legalizing it in a #1 consumer nation like the US.

THIS...: "Illicit networks are often only seen in the silos of those who study them, and through this initiative we hope to raise global awareness, and inspire and launch tangible projects and outputs to address this challenge."
...may be one of the worst-formed sentences I have ever come across, and is inchoate, to boot.
So Google wishes to take on, what, the Drug War (tm)?
What next?
