Killing a fish humanely

After seeing too many poor attempts at killing a fish I decided to illustrate a non-catch and release method for dispatching game fish.

how long does it take for the fish to die this way? ive done this many times and very effective, but just curious as to how fast.

@D4rknesslost Death is a process even if an animal has its head removed or neck broken. Like a guillotine, not much if felt after one's neck is broken or head removed - however as proven by the french doctor studying such matters-even a human is alive for up to 10 seconds after having its head removed. The fish probably dies from loss of spinal fluid more quickly than blood lose. The heart of many fish will still be beating 1-2 minutes after being cut out of the body. consciousness T-10 secs.

@didthatreallyjust You've obviously not killed any or much of your own food. Polystyrene and plastic wrap in a display case in a city is my guess? Sad.

just a word of my own, rather than the lecturer in the video, animals kills other animals, yes. some spiders also eat their own mother alive when they're born. hilariously, we don't. we've developed ethical thought processes different to other animals. we shouldn't ignore them. animals have been scientifically proven to be self-aware&emotional.

@Maximilian178 ah no I know what he said he said "Als letzten Schritt" (as last step, the last thing to do) dont mind that too much. Its better to not wash the fish in the lake where you fished it (blood in the water and such things ) :) but he does a good presentation there :D

the humane way in my last post i was going to describe but should only be practiced by experienced personnel is to cut through the spinal cord of the fish also hitting the dorsal aorta this should be done with a cut straight through the spine using an extreemley sharp knife just behind the gill structure with the sharp part of the knife facing to the top of the body and make sure you feel the crunch the fish will flap only once if done correctly

ive studied in the fisheries trade now for a round 5 years and not once has this been discussed as a humane way of killing the fish i can understand your thoughts on this but either a quick dispatch with a blow to the head above the brain will disintergrate the skull creating brain death the fish will still flap depending on its condition due to the nerves and muscle tissues also a nother humane way and the way that should be done i will describe in the next post
