  • This was the first piece of orchestral music I encountered live. Sitting in the stalls near the front I was overwhelmed and wept from pain and exaltation.

  • Wagner engages listeners with the first notes of his music and doesn't release us until the last ones fade away. This is especially etherial and beautiful, but I am a bit partial to Kubelik's interpretations. I played this prelude in the first violin section of our orchestra in undergraduate school. Talk about being teary-eyed and emotionally transported into bliss -- this one does it for me.

  • If such a thing as heaven actually existed, this is what it would sound like.

  • I am neither a biblical scholar nor a classical music expert, but a verse from the bible comes to mind: Rejoice in hope, persevere in affliction, and continue steadfastly in prayer. I can hear each of these in sequence in the three distinct portions of this piece.

  • I think 1975, that's what the WWV75 stands for, but, I'm not sure.

Ich glaube 1975, das ist, was die WWV75 Stände für ,aber ich bin mir nicht sicher.

  • Wann wurde das aufgenommen?

  • @krischan67 I almost agree with you... I think the vorspiel to Parsifal is also of exalted beauty... similar in feel to the prelude to Lohengrin...also the plots have some similarities.. :-)

  • I have never come as close to heaven as when listening to this.

  • Brilliant. I never get tired of listening to it, eyes closed, and tears always fall

on my face ! It is incredibly beautiful !

  • Well said. Among opera preludes, only the Rheingold prelude can compare with this... in a different manner, of course.
