it's sad you had to experience this part of life, but it's great that the internet is here, so you can ask for all to hear, hopefully that request by your fathers side will help make a difference for the next generation.

Alzheimeris disease is cruel and robs those who had it or are now suffering from it of their true selves. I lost my Nan recently and she and Bobby were great characters of life, energetic and caring people. They faded to different people who could no longer communicate and that was heartbreaking for us. The GOVERNMENT need to give back these drugs to HELP those who suffer in the future.

My Gran also suffered from this terrible illness, as always the goverment is trying to save money at the cost of the elderly. It is an awful thing to have to watch someone you love dearly transform into a person who is nearly un-recognisable for the sake of a few pounds each week! jane x

I think that it is terrible that the nhs will not provide these drugs to vunerable adults for the sake of £2.50 a day. They have paid taxes and worked hard all their lives, and for what? It is disgusting that the nhs will pay for drug addicts medication, and not these poor people. i have looked after bobby for 4 years and cannot comment on what drugs he needed, but these drugs should be available to whomever needs them. Gordon Brown and the nhs should be ashamed of themselves.

When one socialist government was introducing a National Health Service in 1948, who amongst their number could imagine that other socialist prime ministers would decide that "free at the point of delivery" was limited to £2.50 per day per person. No cabinet minister's father will be denied this drug if, god forbid, they suffer from this terrible disease. Gentlemen like this have paid years of taxes to be slapped in the face at the end.

I find it absolutely unbelievable that drug budgets so heavily outweigh the proven benefits of this drug to sufferers with this dreadful debiltating disease.Perhaps representatives from such organisations as N.I.C.E would do well to visit a few patients in care with this awful condition, I then fail to see how their minds could not be changed.

How can N.I.C.E justify their position in the face of evidence that Aricept (Donepezil) has been of huge benefit to those suffering from Alzheimers. Is it not short sighted to aim at saving money on drugs and then be required to spend massive amounts on total nursing care for those who would self care given the choice? Ann Phillips
Linda and I would like to thank you all for your kind words and with much luck we hope to rally against this decision and bring back these drugs for those suffering from this disease. Bobby Hayes passed away on the 21st August 2007 and is now free of this disease. Please continue to provide comments in memory of Bobby as your input is very valuable to us. Many thanks to you all.
