Ngerebong

Ngerebong is a special trance ceremony performed in Petilan Pengerebongan temple in Denpasar, Bali, once in the 210 day Kaliwon calender. The black magic of Rangda, the queen of the dark, coerces the devotees to stub themselves with a kris, but the mighty barong protects them from being perforated.
The celebration starts with the usual prayers and consecrations, then the cockfighting begins. After that the Ngerebong ceremony starts by presenting a number of Barongs and Rangdas being convoyed by their supporting devotees, who are in trance, stubbing themselves and processing three times around the bale where the cockfighting took place.
