California travel expert Veronica Hill of http://www.CaliforniaTravelExpert.com tours Wrightwood, home to Mountain High Ski Resort, in this episode of "California Travel Tips."

This mountain resort in California is a great skiing, snowboarding or California day trip.

If you're ready to hit the slopes and go snowboarding, check out Mountain High. It serves up three separate parks, including one specifically for innertubing. Get there early for tickets, as parking can be a nightmare. And make sure to carry chains during winter storms.

If you'd rather just play in the snow, there are plenty of hills for tubing and sledding. Don't forget to buy your Forest Adventure Pass at Jensen's or Mountain Hardware for $5, or you may get a ticket.

Plan your visit around the annual Parade of Lights, held the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Locals dress up their cars, bikes and golf carts with twinkling lights and holiday music as they hit Park Avenue in their winter best.

During the summer, locals cool off at Twin Lakes, where families enjoy swimming, picnicking and live music. Camping is popular at Table Mountain, which hosts a vintage trailer rally in September. Don't be surprised to spot some native wildlife, such as the gray squirrel, competing for your leftovers.

Don't miss the quaint Snow White Cottage, tucked behind the large oaks and pines at 1581 Twin Lakes. This is private property, but tourists are certainly invited to take pictures.

Wrightwood's main village on Park Avenue is the place to find great shops and restaurants, from the historic Blue Ridge Inn to the quaint Yankee Peddler. Maps of local campgrounds, lodging and other information can be picked up at the Chamber of Commerce, located at the top of Apple Street. They can point you to some great places to stay, from the rustic Pines Motel Cabins to the boutique Canyon Creek Inn.

Next time you're looking for a fun weekend escape, check out Wrightwood village. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I'm Veronica Hill, and that's your California Travel Tip.
