From Wikipedia:

"Born Under a Bad Sign" is a song written by Booker T. Jones (music) and William Bell (lyrics)[1] originally recorded by Albert King as the title track for the album Born Under a Bad Sign released in 1967. Several cover versions of the song exist, most notably by Chicago blues band Paul Butterfield Blues Band, British rock group Cream, Paul Rodgers, American rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix and even Homer Simpson.

Lyrics:

Born under a bad sign
I been down since I begin to crawl
If it wasn't for bad luck,
I wouldn't have no luck at all

Hard luck and trouble is my only friend
I been on my own ever since I was ten
Born under a bad sign
I been down since I begin to crawl
If it wasn't for bad luck,
I wouldn't have no luck at all

I can't read, haven't learned how to write
My whole life has been one big fight
Born under a bad sign
I been down since I begin to crawl
If it wasn't for bad luck,
I wouldn't have no luck at all

I ain't lyin'
If it wasn't for bad luck
I wouldn't have no kind-a luck
If it wasn't for real bad luck,
I wouldn't have no luck at all

Wine and women is all I crave
A big legged woman is
gonna carry me to my grave
Born under a bad sign
I been down since I begin to crawl
If it wasn't for bad luck,
I wouldn't have no luck at all

Yeah, my bad luck boy
Been havin' bad luck all of my days, yes

Enjoy!

  • Jimi's (Hendrix) version is the 2nd best that I've heard (I've heard dozens) of this song. Albert's, of course, is #1. This classic blues tune was co- wriiten by Booker T ? Now that's news. And Wm. Bell. With those creditials, father Albert, Booker and Bell, it HAD to be great. Thank you frenzexperiment for uploadin' it.

  • I was lucky enough to talk to Booker T about this song about 20 years ago..He said that Albert King could not read or write and they taught him the words. Booker T's daughter was in a class with my son in grade school in Marin County, CA.

Booker T said that when Albert hit the first note, it sent shivers down his spine.

I saw Mr. King play around six times or so over the years, wish I could still go see him...

When I was even younger, I thought that Cream wrote this song...
