  • On the contrary the SMOT ramp is NOT repelling the ball it is actually attracting the ball into it. Build a simple SMOT magnet arangement and place the ball onto the uchannel and roll it into the magnetic configuration. You can do this on a level surface. The ball as it get closer to the enterence speeds up! The slowing down is due to friction only .

  • Even with the fairly high speed that the ball is moving it would not be enough to "jump" enough to enter the smot. Also with this configuration there is NO sticky

spot. extending the magnets down should be enough to "grab" the ball. I have built a number of these that do indeed grab the ball. I now have to finish connectng the two to complete the loop.

  • There is a problem. The SMOT ramp is repelling the ball before it goes into attraction mode to make a new climb. Even if it doesn't seem obvious, the ball are slowing down extra right before the SMOT ramp. In addition to that you got to let the ball climb up to enter the ramp again to close the loop. I hope you can close the loop anyways. Good luck.

  • Very nice. =]

What if you just had a circle of those inclines and the ball just keeps dropping into a new ramp around the circle. From what you show, this would be a logical solution.

    Mags

  • Good job! but not 100% - 98%

Have a look at my thoughts in pictures, can help

  • Is it not possible to place a duplicate ramp on the other side to get the ball back uphill ? The smother certainly moves the ball along and up a gradient. I will go back to my smot setup and take another look. Great work

  • Bill, think "motorcycle ramp jumping" to get the last bit. SMOT uphill, then even, then slightly down, and end with a ramp the ball can "jump" the last sticky, and end up at the start. It would need to be large, with much more speed. Just my 2 cents...

  • oooh, looking forward to the next vid !!!
