Triple amputee has warning for motorcyclists

Almost a year after a motorcycle accident that took both his legs and right arm, 26-year-old Zach Sherman is learning how to walk again.

He doesn't remember much about the accident, but his mom remembers hearing the news.

"I got the horrible call that he was in an accident, and it's a call you never want to get as a parent," Karen Garner said.

Sherman was heading north on I-83 near the Limekiln Road Exit when he lost control and crashed in July 2010.

"He lost control going at a high rate of speed and he got into the guardrail, and that was all she wrote," Garner said. "Zach lost his limbs at the accident scene."

"The first thing I remember is seeing the paramedic in front of me," Zach said.

Zach was rushed to Penn State Hershey Medical Center. After 24 hours of surgery and seven days in a coma, he woke up to a harsh reality.

Now, a year later, he is determined to be independent - and the road to independence is painful and tiring.

Humor has helped him along the way. Asked if he has a new perspective on life, he says he's two feet shorter.

But he also has a serious message for his fellow cyclist.

"Don't do what I did," he said. "As fun and as exhilarating as it is, back off the throttle."

"I just hope that, all we are doing, that something good will come out of this," Garner said. "Maybe we will save someone's life. Look at Zach. He is a miracle."

You cant live a risk free life just for the safety of existence!!!!! The law of average is gna pick a few of us for shit like this, guess in a way you can be thankful it wasnt your head that was fucked up, motorcycles are prob out but you can still get you a fast ass car dude, live life!!!
