Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Los Angeles. July 1990. Shajarian set up this rushed fund-raiser concert as a relief effort for the earth quake victims in Iran that year. This was Shajarian's first concert in Los Angeles which turned into a poor debut concert. Tens of thousands of fans came to see this concert however, the band and the music were more suitable for a small venue with a lot of Haal and not the Los Angeles Music Hall (no pun intended). Fans who were used to carefully composed musical pieces on par with the Bidad album were bored and frustrated for paying $50-60. This was a disaster for Shajarian and he probably lost a lot of fan base which he forever had difficulty winning back. Eighteen years years later, this concert feels like a great Avaz performance by Shajarian and a major effort by Shariff. Fans quite often do not realize how much more interesting avaz can be than Tasnifs. I hope you enjoy.
