Sustainable Development Proposals for Addington Highlands by uOttawa Environmental Studies Students
Group 1: Mountain bike tourism in Addington Highlands
Background: In September 2011, students in the University of Ottawa's 4th Year Environmental Studies Field Course (ENV4910) traveled to Addington Highlands and surrounding townships in Eastern Ontario. Organized into four research teams, the students were tasked with developing proposals for initiatives that could foster sustainable development in the area. Each research team prepared a short video outlining the key elements of their proposal. Through YouTube, the students and I would like to share these ideas openly with residents of the study area, and with anyone else who is interested in enhancing rural sustainability.
In this video, Research group 1 outlines its ideas for attracting mountain bike tourists to Addington Highlands.

This is a great idea. Very thorough discussion of the vision. I'm curious as to the MNR position on having dedicated mountain bike trails on Crown Land with a land use permit. I've heard that you may not be able to restrict the trails to only mb and xcskiis…ATV's and mountain bikes do not mix well in my experience. Clarification?
