I can guarantee you they did not need to use the emergency brake. Metra would have entered the block on a restricting signal and been going restricted speed - no more than 20mph. If they were going westbound, he probably got that close to clear Loomis Street.

you missed the close call yesterday as amtrak was pulling out metra came in and had ot put on the emergency brake to stop they were about 5 car lengths apart

All "METRA" conductors on the BNSF are BNSF employees, and the BNSF worker is the Superintendant of suburban Operations for the Chicago subdivision
