I finish the process of converting my Saiga 12. Since I had already modified my Saiga previous to this I was able to reuse the fore end and Tapco T6 stock therefore I only had to buy the basic conversion kit. Start to finish took me 3 hours with a few short breaks in between. This DIY conversion IS NOT for everyone to try. I strongly recommend that you have a modest knowledge of gun-smithing prior to attempting this otherwise you might damage your gun and/or cause it to function in a dangerous manner. On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being no previous gunsmithing knowledge and 10 being a Class II builder) I give this project a difficulty of 4. If you have the modest knowledge and want to save money, give it a try.

  • Do you have to modify the bolt hold lever? It does not look like you did there, I am doing my conversion tommorow and just need to know if I need to modify it 100% or not.. I know how it is supposed to look when you grind out or cut out the piece needed. Just need to know if that is 100% required.. Thanks.

  • @OIFV0608 You DO NOT need to modify the bolt hold lever. You can, if you want, modify the selector lever to allow it to be easily removed without messing with the hold lever. Some conversion kits come with the selector lever modified for this reason, some don't. It isn't an essential change but if you ever plan on removing the selector lever after the conversion then maybe it's a good idea. I personally felt no need to modify the selector lever. Good luck with your conversion.

  • hey how did it go at the range? did the bolt hold open spring slip or did it stay intacked?? great video going to do the coversion on my saiga 12 as soon as the parts come. Thanks again

  • @moamawi1 I shot 3 rounds of skeet with it yesterday, flawless. The bolt hold open works great. I have heard that many people opt to remove the bolt hold and spring when they do a conversion because installing it is by far the hardest part of the conversion. The conversion just feels and looks better and is a must for the Saiga. Good luck with your conversion and remember to take your time and it will all work in the end.

  • Outstanding--thx much for the contribution! Happy Thanksgiving.

  • @markewallaceg1 Thanks, Sorry for the late reply.
