PART 2

I remember fondly one episode where she was trying to teach Vicki how to make cookies. She was reminiscing about how she used to make cookies with HER mother, got lost in the memory, and then bent down and kissed Vicki on the cheek. If they had spent a few episodes on the familys bonding with Vicki, or just have the show run for an hour to provide for this, it would have been the greatest sitcom of all time for me.

PART 1

As great as this show was, it had one flaw: it needed to be an hour long. They spent so much time on the family getting into a situation and trying to get out of it that they shirked any potential emotional growth story lines. Joan, for example, was pretty much the only one in the family who treated Vicki as a real person and we got to see very little of Joan bonding with her.
