Well, video#66 had to be Tony - didn't it? And as for Mythology... well, according to Wikipedia:

"Between 1966 and 1967 Iommi played in a band named The Rest. This was the first time Iommi played with old school friend and future Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward.

From January 1968 till July 1968, Iommi was guitarist in Mythology, with Ward joining a month later in Mid February. In May 1968, police raided the group's practice flat and found cannabis resin, which resulted in a £15 fine and a two-year conditional discharge for Iommi, Ward, Smith and Marshall. Mythology split up after a gig in Silloth on 13th July, 1968."

This is (most of) the last song from the Silloth gig - and it's probably the most intense I've ever heard Tony play. On the other end of the spectrum, anything after Sabotage (or, at a pinch, Technical Ecstasy) is beyond my interest.

  • The bottom line on the "tips"is this - for Tony, they're real, not a gimmick. For anyone else, they would be, natch.

Unless they want to play "Hey, I'll try that too!" - which is too warped to even think about. And then there are the "I'll go one step further" guys...

  • NOW, if only someone would sell synthetic little finger extensions - I'd be in like a flash!

  • loeny? check me out!

  • @Terrible1 Yeah he talked about how his tone kinda changed after he started playing with the tips on his fingers.

  • Amazing!

  • AMAZING! I never knew this was available! thanx for the uploads!

  • @avs002 did you know that tony used the tip of a fairy liquid bottle on his finger. that's why his solo's lasted 10 times longer than conventional solos.

  • yeah, that's the one, I couldn't remember the name, Just filthy. This is incredible

  • True that . .always looked a Sab as the interplay 'tween Tony and Geezer; I know it's not a popular sentiment but I never really cared for Ozzie.

The difficult thing about learning any Sabbath song is that Tony always, 'cuzza his finger, tuned down a step or two.

I do Warning in the key of D; that way, when you do that step up for the middle part, you're in E for all the inprov. then float back down to D when you go back into the song proper. That was the first Sab song I learned,

  • I'm learning Warning on guitar for two weeks and this is impossible:-D . Yes, hearth like a wheel is also great, whole "Seventh star" album is great, Glen is great singer, also good bassist, but i prefer Geezer.

  • Oh certainly, I agree. Warning, I think the only Sabbath cover tune, is THE ultimate example of Tony's blues prowess and his improvisational skills. Heart Like A Wheel is seldom heard because it was post-Ozzie and -Dio, there fore not that popular , but still a great blues piece. But I agree; 'twas Warning that showed me that side of Tony. . . one o' my greatest influences. . .

  • I think, that better example is "The Warning" from the Black sabbath album..

  • . . Tony is always masterful with blues . .Check out "Heart Like a Wheel" from the 7th Star. . .
