Gameplay from the NES game, Rockin' Kats, emulated in NEStopia.

There are platform games of all kinds on the NES, but how many let you play as a jazzy blue cat with a tie who uses a cartoon punch glove as a weapon while trying to save his girlfriend from a mobster bulldog by running through stages posing as TV shows? Not many, I'd imagine.

It's a well-done concept, too - the glove punches, grabs onto ledges, holds and throws objects... why aren't weapons these days this creative?

(Oh, and the Japanese name for this game? "NY Nyankies". Damn the Japanese and their love of puns!)

  • Oh, how I love this game)

  • OMG! I live in Hungary where the only way to play NES games is on hardware clones (like Dendy). My parents bought this game for me in Christmas. On the cover there was a guy with knife and a dino, under the title Godzilla 1997. I realized that the cover was Turok The Dino hunter a pretty good N64 game. Man, I was so confused when I first played this game. And I love it.

  • ...ATLUS?! Holy fuck, no wonder I loved this game as a kid.

  • Not the best gameplay I ever seen, but reminescence of youth for me ^_^

  • I love this so much, I still have it for a working NES for more than 10-15 years by now.

Some parts were so hard especially at the secret stages, but I still kept beating the game many times.

And yes, at that time, no save states, no "save anywhere", no memory card... running out of lives at a boss or secret stage could be real frowny in the end.

  • @Somethingcrappy I guessed this was for convenience, in case you want to exit the level with saving the coins you earned (as you just explained).

I found it out by randomly pressing buttons to see if there's some secret code or anything. I often did that with NES/SNES games. Many times with result.

  • His name is Willie, right? or is it Willy

  • @Boredbynoobs Me too! I like this game, Retro-ic. OHHHH IF I EVER GOT A TIME MACHINE!!!

  • did you know that if you pause the game and press A 3 times it goes back to the TV-menu. Idk if this is a secret, glitch or intentional but when you're at 3rd level, keep going back and forth at the place where there are 2 long platforms and a lot of guys with skateboards(or something)coming from left and right and kill those guys and when you have enough money just pause and press A, A and A.

  • Well you can't post links but on the site nintendo8 they got this game
