Asians back in Africa

In this installment of FRONTLINE/World's Rough-Cut series, Omar Sachedina travels to Uganda. Omar was always fascinated by the Indian traditions his family had preserved, even though his parents have never visited India. They were born in Uganda.

In 1972, his parents were expelled from the country by the notorious dictator Idi Amin. By traveling to Uganda, he thought it would help him better understand his parents and, more profoundly, himself. He also wanted to investigate the racial dynamics in the country since the expulsion and discover which side -- if any -- he would "side" with: the Asians or the blacks ... or both.

The worst exploiters have been the European colonialists. The Indians live in Africa and call it their own, just as Africans live in USA and call it their own. So instead of blaming Indians, perhaps Africans should learn something from Indians, Viz. keeping their own traditions like thier own religion instead of becoming mindless Christians. Look what the LRA did just recently by hacking to death 38 innocent AFRICANS. Indians are creating jobs for Africans unlike the LRA.

@parihav They only have right to reap the benefits of land and economy if they contribute towards it. Indians had every right to make a living and they did it well. Penniless they still made a success when they were expelled. So why havent the black ugandans? Where is the great gain since Idi Amin who incidently murdered hundreds of thousands of his own people.

omg plz stop lying ppl! indians were not racists! they always treated my family great! and were generally very good to our ppl. they gave us lots of opportunities aswell. idi amin was the racist! indians+africans get along v well its the colonialists,exploiters,killer­s(like idi amin) we should be gettin angry at but we never do. indian ppl didnt really do anythin to anybody. and the british treated them horribly too! and i can say as a ugandan in the west,some of the most proud ugandans r INDIAN

Ugandan Asian r now British Asians who now fill the coffers of Britain with 48% of the total economy. That's how powerful Asian businessmen are. Some simply jealous because they can make anything from what they have. There are 28 Ugandan Asian millionaires in Uk.

Indian people are Jews. They are black people who confuse African people. These people are true brothers who need to re-learn how to live like Africans. They are very hard working people. Africa give them a second chance.

Clearly they didn't many of the businesses taken over after the expulsion did not do very well at all. That's why the Ugandan government is welcoming my parents back. Even the immigration officer at Rwanda pleaded for my dad to come back.

i really pity those that were reaped out of uganda coz some of them are innocent. and i think some of u shuld stop with your crappy stories that indians provide ugandan jobs coz they dont. i have seen alot of indians that are jobless and deported back to india

Get the hell out of here, blacks can profit from Uganda by themselves, since it is their land, they don't need Asians to create jobs for them.
