The talented Len Cariou (the original Sweeney Todd) sings his solo version of "Pretty Women" from Stephen Sondheim's "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street".

From: "That's Singing: The Best of Broadway" (Filmed 1982)

Introduction by Tom Bosley.

It's amazing how much of the power of the song is lost when taken out of context as a solo performance.

You do realize this is taken completely out of context of the show and performed as a solo piece, right? Cariou is definitely not singing in character here. Why should he? Without the scene, "Pretty Women" is simply a love song.

Can't we just agree that both Cariou and Hearn were wonderfull? Michael Ball did a great job and Depp did a terrible one, but it's not his fault, he just does'nt have the voicce for Todd.

I know really, for god's fucking sake, I think the only TRUE Sweeney is Hearn. I don't give a shit about Cariou's cute little voice.

hearn is TERRIBLE. listen to the original soundtrack, the depth of his voice, the sublety, the character, and then compare it with hearn's performance. you've GOT to be kidding me, Cariou is unmatched.

He has a beautiful voice, but I'm having a hard time picturing him as Todd. He doesn't seem dark enough. I'm not saying he's a bad Todd, since I haven't seen him in the part, but I do think I prefer Hearn.

i wish people would realize that origanally it was EITHER a romantic or "intense" song, and it was a choice, i fucking love this, it adds the sociopathic aspect more than in the movie (which i fucking love as well), Todd is enjoying it, it adds that human element
