NeilFraudstrong doesn't have the slightest idea what he's talking about. Steroids were illegal during the 1998 baseball season and well before it. It was against the law in the United States of America to obtain the steroids McGwire took without a legitimate prescription. He did not get such a valid prescription.  It just happened to be the case that the anabolic steroids McGwire took were not on MLB's banned drug list at the time, but he nonetheless broke the law. Get a clue, you fools.

For the record though, McGwire did use steroids that were legal at the time that he used.
