ok i shot this. the graphic was wrong from the night b4. Our morning crew has no time to fix stuff (skeleton crew)
as for rolling black then bars, that was all MC dumbass wasnt paying attention and rolled past what he was suposed to. Those bars you see at the end are the bars for the next update cause there all put on same tape.
I guess what ticked me off was his comment that 'a monkey could do my job'. Hey, chief, I had a helping hand in the matter by you not taping over the mistake, or letting me know that a promo on the tape had been bad, and to not play that particular promo. In this case, I got hung out to dry.
Well, this wasn't a graphics mistake. It was a matter of not taping over a bad promo. The person cutting the promo goofed, and started over. At that point, either the tape should have been rewound and taped over, or color bars put up, or a note left for me, or SOMETHING...However, you are right in saying that the tape should have been checked.
The producer's mistake was not taping over the bad promo, or throwing up color bars to indicate the first attempt was a bust. Had he done EITHER of the above, like I said, I wouldn't have rolled on the bad one.
While the majority of mistakes in master ARE the MCO's fault, they DO get help in the bonehead department on occasion. When I worked at a station that rolled spots off of SVHS, a producer made a mistake on a promo, and never informed me of the mistake, so I accidently rolled on the bad promo, and the fool reamed ME out. Had he done HIS job, the error wouldn't have happened.
I happen to know what went on with this. The "take" you are seeing that aired was actually a blooper. The news department tapes those news updates. When the news guys realized there was an error in the studio they stopped and re-recorded a correct version. Those taped news updates run through their main master control and someone rolled on the blooper instead of the retake/correct recording. Go figure.
