The first time I heard this on KGNU's "Honky Tonk Heros" I fell in love!
I can't wait to check out some other stuff from these guys -- boy, Grant is an amazing player -- gorgeous full strat with that delicious sparkle in the upper registers -- the way he gets those high notes to pop and sparkle reminds me of Eric Johnson. Great touch and incredibly expressive -- hard to imagine someone else able to carry the song like he does.
I don't know if others agree, but I think that Grant Tye is better than any real pedal steel players. His like are the epitome of what is great about that pedal sound, but he also throws in normal guitar licks. I get tired of it when there is too much of the same sound, and since he does both he gets it right every time. And he can rock!!!
Those were some sickly tasty licks from the "pedal strat"--Fulks is a great sardonic wit. He's often too dry for his audience, and I'm worried he's gonna make them mad. But I'll always keep coming back. I love Robbie.
What a gem of a song and what a wit -- and mimic!
