@QueenKuehn2 This IS NOT earlier than Bobbie Gentry's Ode to Billie Joe which came out in July of 1967. In 1967 Dolly Parton was just getting started. It is obvious Dolly was copying her but then again maybe her record label was just trying to cash in on some of Bobbie's massive success.
This is nothing short of an imitation of Bobbie Genty's classic Ode to. Billie Joe. It even seems to be written in about the same time period Bobbie Gentry was the first country female to score a #1 pop and country album. Her staggering1.5 million albums and 3.5million singles sold in 1967 paved the way for others. She was the first country female with a gold album and the first country female to score a gold duets album(with Glen Campbell)
Stunning. Staggering. Simply breathtaking. Thank you for sharing this. I've always loved this song, but this is the first time I've heard Dolly sing it live.
The woman's talent is staggering. Too bad so many only think of big hair and big boobs when they think of Dolly. But her voice, her writing-a real world class talent.
haunting song

I wish Dolly would redo and reissue some of her old songs - this one, for example. Her talent has been evident since the start of her career.

@dollyabba No, I think it's just been recorded from the Porter Wagoner Show. Is that available on DVD? I'm not sure...
