Some of those guys were hitting speeds of 65 mph. At those speeds, hitting the brakes too hard could cause rapid tire deflation. If you go down at even half that speed without a helmet, chances are you're going to die. Pussies? I hardly think so.

@boostedbird23 50mph isn't a big deal in a road race, its pretty common. i've done this in tights and a small styrofoam helmet. good fight.

@wheyez If you were a real cycling athlete you would appreciate and respect riders of all disciplines. You would also understand that road racing takes a tremendous amount of skill...in addition to more physical fitness and mental toughness than you will likely ever understand. I've done both and I can tell you that road racing is harder...also more likely to get killed or injured. So, don't be a douche and talk about something you don't know about.

@skoockum Well, sorta. It's pretty scary to ride downhill on a road bike at those speeds.  It takes mental fortitude to push yourself at LT up grades like you are talking about. Mostly, I agree with you.

Crazy, Tuna Canyon has some insanely tight corners.

Hard to believe this road used to be two lanes, until part of the road fell in the canyon.
