  • Its hard to believe that piece of junk costs $500 million.

  • Looks as if the ship isn't as overweight as first thought. Otago has been accepted. She will be able to do all of her duties as planned, but her weight will have to be watched during the future. Don't plan on any additional future changes.

  • Yep,thats what I heard here in NZ too. I am suspecting when they were working out gross tonnage, they forgot to add in the weight of the welding and a few other bits.

  • One report out of the UK has indicated that these ships failed their Lloyds certification and are around 100 tons over their designed displacement. The NZ Government apparently refused to take delivery of them and is taking legal action against Tenix's successor, Bae Systems. Watch this space....

  • hey, whats happening TENEX...were still fkn waiting for them.

  • Theyre scheduled to do an upgrade to Sea Sparrow block two generation in the next few years...in other words, damned expensive.

  • The NZ frigates do not carry missiles.

  • Are they going to transport sheep on this ship?

So it is a a cheap shitty sheep ship!

  • NZ had old Leanders when the ANZAC's came into service, and the only major corrosion zones were the boiler rooms under the evaps and few other "wet" spaces. Most of the corrosion on the ANZAC's is a mix of Ali,steel,Cupro-nickel with Stainless steels etc.

  • The ships they replaced, are you referring to the old ADAMS-Class DDGs such as the HMAS HOBART?

I worked on a number of those in the US during the late 1980s; they has the same electrolysis problems where the superstructure joined the main deck.

Is the same yard where the AEGIS ships are supposed to be built?
