Jim Wallis discusses the idea of a new moral logic. There are more issues than just gay marriage and abortion, and we need to start the conversation about poverty and the environment.
Last time we settled for a nice phrase, we got "Hope and Change", which was change for the worse and hopelessly lost. Please explain your "New Moral Logic".
@kdbrewing So if a party wanted to tackle problems of homelessness and poverty, but supports genocide of say, Jews, would you consider voting for that party? That's exactly the platform the Nazis had when they were elected in Germany in the 30's and 40's. If you truly understand that abortion decapitates, dismembers and disembowels thousands of children yearly, how can you even compare economic policies (good or bad) to policies parties have about child-killings? BTW, I'm not Republican.
@MLBinwa I answered this question already. If it wasn't a preborn child but a 2-month old child, would you tear that baby up limb by limb just because her existence might threaten the life of another child? Of course not. So why do you think doing that to preborn children is the solution to any problem? You don't understand what abortion does to children. This is why you think poverty and abortion should be treated the same way as issues. That is why we are having this debate.
That's not what he's saying at all. He's saying that the other issues of poverty and abuse and the broader biblical understanding of the sanctity of life and creation is missed when we boil things down to just two issues. We should be prolife, but we shouldn't merely vote by that issue alone especially if the other policies your party holds are sorely unbiblical or oppress the poor all the more. That is not a healthy way to vote. We must strive against ALL injustice he's saying.
I don't think a child should be punished for her father's act. I'm just saying that the abortion issue is more complex then some people think it is. I'd say your not answering my question proves that.
Here it is again.
What would you do if you had a nine year old child and she was raped. Would you risk your daughters life to see if the baby will live?
I didn't think that Jim saw it as an either or. I took what he said as him wanting some people who say they are Christians to add to what they are doing and not just focus on a few issues.
My personal opinion is that anyone who says they are pro life, should do all they can to support all life regardless of if they are in the unborn or born.
I'd also say that they should look for peaceful solutions to our challenges, rather then support war as an answer.
I'm a big fan of Jim Wallis. Thanks for the conversation on this issue.
Now, my complaint about "talking videos" and news casts that seem to think that conversation or reporting demands background noise. What's the point? Are they saying, "The message is not all that strong, so we'll beef it up with noise?"
I find all too often the background noise is at such a level that understanding the speaker is difficult! Stop the noise! Stop the funk!
@MLBinwa Respond to this video...I think the problem is that we don't agree about what the unborn are: if the unborn are not human beings, then their deaths shouldn't be a priority for anyone, including Christians. If they are human beings, then shouldn't Americans care that 1 million of their fellow citizens are killed every year? How much more for Christians - how can we tell people about God's love while we criticize others for trying to save innocent human lives that God loves?
@MLBinwa Again, this is not a complaint about "expanding the conversation" this is a concern that Wallis cannot understand the difference between the solution to child-killing and the solution to poverty. They are two different issues that need two different solutions. He's criticizing pro-life Christians for making the stopping of child-killing in our own country a priority over poverty. But if abortion directly kills an innocent child and poverty doesn't it, which should we fight first?
Marxism = Poverty, Control, Slavery
The exact thing that Wallis is trying to overcome is exactly what he is creating by his allegiance to Marxist ideology.

"New Moral Logic" sounds like "Brave New World".
