Around 150 Bloomington high school and IU students participated in the 7th annual African-American Read-In at Indiana University on February 2, 2009. This short video presents highlights from original works read by the authors.
Assistant professor in the department of Literacy, Culture, and Language Education, Stephanie Carter, organizes the event at IU. The national African-American Read-In started in 1990 as a project of the black caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). NCTE promotes the event nationally as a part of Februarys Black History Month celebrations.
