89-year old Martha Flowers, a resident of Schnurmacher Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in White Plains, joined Music Therapist Marlon Sobol, Jazz great David Amram, Shem's Disciples bass guitarist Alan Katz and Grammy-nominated percussionist Bobby Sanabria for a rousing jam celebrating the inauguration of the ground breaking music therapy collaboration between Schnurmacher and the internationally renowned Institute for Music and Neurologic Function (both members of the Beth Abraham Family of Health Services). Martha is one of the many residents at Schnurmacher who now benefit from music therapy services as a result of this collaboration.
The Bronx-based Institute for Music and Neurologic Function is a world leader in using and studying the efficacy of Music Therapy. Music therapy has been shown to help alleviate pain, enhance memory, improve speech and communication, promote physical recovery, manage stress, improve sleep, express feelings and enhance mood. Research in music therapy helps establish the scientific basis for its efficacy and determine which interventions are most effective for various physical and emotional needs.
By partnering with its network affiliate, Schnurmacher, conveniently located in the heart of White Plains, is proud to bring one of the nations leading music therapy providers to expand its services beyond those already available in Westchester county.
