On Dec 31, 2011, a bright green meteor streaked across the Arizona skies. It traveled from South to North and with an unusual trajectory that paralleled the earth's horizon. The meteor appeared quite large and was low in the sky. This simulation recreates what 5 people saw that night near the intersection of Scottsdale & Jomax Roads in Scottsdale. The background photo is of the actual viewing site looking east towards the McDowell mountains and the green meteor depicted is a recreation of what the meteor looked like as it traveled across the sky for several seconds. This was a very spectacular meteor to see and hundreds of people across AZ, NM, CO, TX, and OK were witness to this event.

  • I totally saw this too and it was beautiful! It got bigger and brighter the longer I stared at it. And then I made a big ass wish! lol But I did see it, it's probably one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

  • i saw it, im in el paso texas. saw it around 7pm or so. 3 secs of tiny blue light into a great big green tail with bring yellow and white head for another 3 secs into a 2 second burn out.
