Maple learning to swim in the bath. We live near lots of lakes and we wanted her to get used to the water, although she was more interested in getting out!

  • She is nearly 4yrs old, is a great swimmer and I can't keep her out of the water now! Swimming lessons in a controlled environment worked then! ;-)

  • Me and my girlfriend have just bought a Cocker Spaniel puppy that will move in with us in about 3 weeks. We have a lot of questons before the new family member arrives. For example, what temperement do a cockerpuppy have? What does it like to do, what can we play with it? How often does it need to be walked outside? And many more. Hope you can answer some of them because we are anxious to know as much as possible before the new member of our family arrives

    Sincerely

    Isak from Sweden

  • Cockers have a wonderful temperement and make great pets. I've heard if a family with a cocker have a baby, they should let the cocker interact with the baby as if they keep shooing it away then it may get resentful. They have endless energy and will play for hours. They'll chew things at first as they're teething but will grow out of it. Walk it daily and let it meet other dogs eary on. Love your spaniel and they will reward you with unconditional love for their whole lives.

  • how is she now, i'm getting my cocker spaniel in one week. any tips for training him?

  • She is almost 2 years old now. Tips for training would be to be patient, be repetative with commands until they get them, move anything you don't want chewed whilst they are teething, exercise them lots, show them who is boss - they are packs animals and need a leader or they will think they are in charge, be firm but loving and you'll get a life time of unconditional love and companionship from them. Cockers are fantastic pets, enjoy :-)

  • I bet she was scared :( That's mean

  • I don't think so, she didn't act scared, just unsure of what to do - She could still stand up in it (just) and could easily hop out. She is a great swimmer now and I have problems keeping her out of the water - so it obviously worked and she loves the water as a result!

  • I dont encourage violence against a cocker as a means to teach them. I rarely use violence myself. Not because I may injure it, but it may injure itself. Cocker especially in young age seem unable to control their movements very well, they act alot on instict , I once made the mistake throwing him some turkey fillet in the air so he jump and eat it, the dog landed on his back. He was standing the next second. But lesson learned, protect the dog from itself.

  • My cocker spaniel reaction to the water is , he love it, he hates it , he love it , he hates .... he is plain crazy. Cockers are hyperactive dogs , that love water , but also they react abit strange to it, they dont see it as a way to relax like us , more like a toy to play with. Anything strange excites a cocker spaniel, everything for them is a game. So dont thing for a second the puppy is scared, cocker are fearless. I kick him gently sometimes as punishment and he comes back licking me.

  • SHE IS ADORABLE!! i have a cocker named Lilly and she loves baths. Your puppy looks great but a little nervous but they get used t it eventually :)

  • i have a cockerspaniel to i love him so much he is the best

    cockerspaniels have the best personality

  • what a method boss

  • did i say to throw it in a lake? no i didnt. why on earth would that be okay? stop talking about something you dont know anything about, sweetie.

  • really sugartits...cause i'm pretty sure you can see the dog put its legs on the bottom. but no you are totally right, we should just throw the dog out on the lake...that way instead of being in a safe bathroom the dog could drown. it is so much safer to teach a dog swimming by starting out in a tub, and obviously you didnt pay attention cause the owner says the dog loves swimming now so it obviously worked out just fine.
