By request from one of my YT friends here is Lee Moore Playing his dobro which he called his Ruso-Phonic Guitar.
This is the same show I recorded back in 1995 at the Old Mystic Baptist church.
I tried to brighten up the video but all I did was make the video quality look worse.
I had an old Sony CCD-V5 8mm camcorder at the time and it was very poor in low light.
I hope you enjoy this as much as I did recording it.
I met Lee in person and he was a fine gentleman and had a great sence of humor.

  • In the 1960' in Maine we had to 'wait'...not a word used much today.. til 9:pm before we could listen to distant AM stations so we 'appreciated', another antique word... whatever we could get.. static, side station interference and all.... but it wasn't the music we 'heard'....it was the emotion we 'felt' and that came through load and clear... thanks for keeping the memories alive... Bob

  • @btooley10 Thanks, yes those were the good days when country music was country.

Lee Moore clanging his coffee cup saying "It's coffee drink time with Lee Moore the coffee drinking night hawk".

He would sip his coffee, play his guitar live on WWVA.

    Great memories.

  • I have always been interested in slide guitar. this was cool. Thanks for sharing with us. JohnF

  • I too, used to listed to the 'Coffee Drinkin' Nighthawk" over WWVA in Wheeling West Va. while growing up in Toronto Ont. in th 50"s. Learned to play The Cat Came Back by listening to him play his Martin D-28 live on the radio. Also learned to play the long 'A' with my pinky finger on the 5th fret just like he did. Lost a ot of sleep getting up for school in those days.

    Ken Rowan , Toronto, Ont.

  • I use to listen to Lee on WWVA also... that 'whistling static' you heard was from 'Radio Swan' on Swan Island and was a CIA station with news into Cuba... :-)

  • Hidden under my blanket late at night as a kid in the Bronx, New York I regularly listened to and loved Lee Moore as, through the whistling static, he'd say "This is Lee Moore, your coffee-drinking nighthawk on WWVA, WHEELING, West Virignia. He seemed a world away then (that was part of the appeal), but has ever been close to my heart.

  • I just posted the song that I remember him doing. I am attaching it as a video response. ...Bill

  • @old64goat / The one I remember was, Those Hills That I Love. It was Lee and Juanita at the time. I think they split later on.
