@hawkstrike244 Have you tried ultrasound? I'm alien to that technology, but I know it can break the cells, make them decant and have the oil floating on the water. Just figuring.

@saxmanchiro don't be sad, the opportunity to gain from the knowledge is lost as soon as things go viral. Why don't you just use the knowledge and create a new company from it? That way you can get off your teacher salary

I did this for a science fair for my school and it went over well i was speaking to about 250 people including RI senators however i could not extract any algal oils to make biofuels I have currently been experimenting with micro wave, pressure cooker, freezing methods in hopes to break open the lipid cells and extract the oils however, it failed any tips i could try? p.s this is just for school i do not have any industrial presses

Algal biofuels is nothing more than separating fools (public & private) from their money. The basic problem is you can make biofuels from algae but not enough to make it worthwhile. I get no funding from the oil industry or any industry for that matter and no government grants. I publish papers in internatonal journals on almost no money. Contrary to what some conspiracy theorists think the reason why algal biofuels do not work is a matter of physics and biology and that nasty 2nd law.

So sad that vids like this, helping people understand a possible solution out of our current and future AGW problems, are not viewed by millions. Instead, we have music ,sex and silly teen vids getting millions of views. This vid has been up for over two yrs now and has just under 20k views. This stuff needs to go viral.
As a high school biology teacher, I can only reach a few thousand students in my career and help them with understanding these creatures. Let's get this stuff out there more!

*sigh* CO2 is plant food. I'm not concerned about the release of CO2, I'm concerned about importing our oil from less than friendly nations. Please spare the BS and move on to whether or not algae can produce oil on an industrial scale.......
