This is a reverse sneezing attack, my pugs have them all the time. Best thing you can do is calm them and rub their throat to get their soft pallet to go back down.
I'm no Vet but it sounds to me like laryngeal collapse (pushing/pulling of air). I am familiar with this as I have had 3-pugs. See my video on "Sasha the Miracle Pug". I would suggest that you find a Vet who is familiar with this as it is progressive (meaning it will only get worse if not corrected). As the cartilage becomes strained it collapses and will never restrengthen. Depending upon the cause corrective surgery may help. Research laryngeal collapse.
this video looks nasty but infact its helped me so much, my pug has been doing it n i was starting to panic that sumthing was very wrong and then i watched this and read the comments and relise thta this is normll and most flat nosed dogs do it, so thank u lol
I am soooooo relieved to see this! I thought my little black pug had a real problem until a family friend said her little shitz-hui (?) does the same thing.
and mare bare is right. this is good for other pug owners to see. as painful and sad as it was to watch. just makes me think of how panicked i get when my pug reverse sneezes.
i usually just tried to pry his mouth open because i assumed it had to do something with his tongue. and i agree with juliey your pug IS adorable.
Awww she/he is soooo cute!!!! I have a puggle and she does this a lot it's reverse sneezing.

I had no idea it was called reverse sneezing!! My pug, Mr. Tibbs, does this too. It always helps to hold him and rub his neck. Your pug is ADORABLE!!
