Bristol Motor Speeday Crash

Johnny Sauter and Mike Harmon in a devastating yet non lethal crash in the NASCAR Bush Series practice run. Bristol Motor Speedway in August 2002. Harmon was practicing his #44 car for GIC-Mixon Motorsports, when he crashed into the track's infield entry gate in Turn 2. The gate was improperly secured and swung open when Harmon crashed into it. Harmon's car then impacted the end of the concrete wall head-on. The impact was so violent, the car literally split in half. The remnants of the vehicle were then struck lightly by the car of Johnny Sauter, but he luckily hit the half that Michael was not sitting in. Harmon later walked away from the crash unharmed. As a result of that crash, a similar crash by Michael Waltrip in the early 1990s, and the inability to get ambulances out of the infield without having to stop the race, Speedway Motorsports, Inc. installed a tunnel under the track for traffic to enter and exit the infield.

i was at the track when that happened. i was about to go into the track to watch but i went to the bathroom and didn't see the wreck. My cousins and my brother saw it though

@logixisbad I was about to say no, you're thinking of Michael Waltrip's crash. Then I realized that it was 2002 and it is now 2011, meaning this was about 10 years ago and Waltrip was about 20 years ago. I feel so old now.
