Pitt the Younger was a fascinating figure. He became Prime Minister at an age similar to that of modern university students completing their degrees. He served the longest undisputed term in office as PM, and finished it at an age younger than that of Blair and Cameron when they first came to office. His father, the Earl of Chatham, was a legendary politician who also served as PM. I read Hague's biography of him over Christmas. We shall never see another Pitt the Younger take power here.

William Pitt was one of our greatest prime ministers. So was his father... if only we had such people today.

For those interested, William Hague's biography, "William Pitt the Younger" is an excellent, balanced, and readable account of Pitt's life, thinking, and politics. It's a good read.

William Pitt the Younger was a disinterested patriot, a loyal family man, and physically died in the service of his country. The son of the great Lord Chatham, Burke was correct-William Pitt the Younger was not a chip off the old block, he was the old block himself.
so?
