The consumer of today is better connected and better informed than ever. Where traditionally retailers where able to heavily influence the consumer during their purchasing process, today's consumer is led more by the opinion of its peers than that of the retailer and has a greater choice than ever how to interact with the retailer - via the store, over the web or mobile, maybe using a catalogue.
In this changing world the retailer will need to adapt a sound multi-channel retail strategy; not to gain competitive advantage, but simply to survive.
