Also, how come all these 80s dog food ads are obviously targeted to kids?

@skystarless By producing ads with talking or anthropomorphic animals (it wasn't just dogs, there was also Morris the cat) it makes kids want to get a dog or cat even more than usual, which increases pet ownership and sales of pet food. At least that's my take on that trend.

This has got 2 be 1 of THE best, if not THE best collection of commercials here. This has taken me back 2 my childhood days. I have ALWAYS loved that short Santa Claus Is Coming To Town jingle.
