Yup, we bought a pipe organ for our budding organist (just turned 7)! It's the W. Zimmer and Sons Opus 175 built in 1976. It features 4 (for a total of 12) stops on the pedals and two full manual key sections. The Stops are:

Pedals:
16' Gedackt
8' Gedackt
4' Spill Flote
2' Principal

Manual I:
8' Gedackt
4' Principal
2' Block Flote
1' Sifflet

Manual II:
8' Gedackt
4' Spill Flote
2' Principal
1-1/3' Nasat

The 16' Gedackt is on the back side of the organ, tubed off the main electric action wind chest. The organ is self-contained with a Laukhauff blower and schwimmer on the botttom of the wind chest.

The organ was orginally commisioned by the Scarritt Bennett Center in Nashville, TN back when it was a religious college. It was one of two practice organs they used in the gothic Wightman Chapel Cathedral which also houses a very impressive permanent pipe organ.

The organ was purchased at Milnar Organ Company in Eagleville, TN during a recent trip to Nashville to visit family, and towed back to Michigan in a U-Haul trailer!

With the help of "Mr. Chris" we hefted the various "puzzle pieces" into the house and assembled it in the living room - where we think it fits quite nicely and sounds pretty good too after a bit of tuning by the organist himself!

  • Why is it that many budding organists are drawn to this piece at a young age...? A brave attempt young man. Have a look at your music...some of it is played an octave too high! Keep up the good work

  • @jedmba1 believe it or not, he was playing the song entirely by ear - this was before we got the sheet music. :)
