Ma-sang-mu-yae (equestrian martial arts)
2009 International Horseback Archery Competition (5th) in Sokcho, Korea.
Now WHAF-sanctioned horseback archery competitions are endorsed by UNESCO.
A little demo of Korean equestrian martial arts performed by horseback archery instructors during the opening ceremony.
This is the order of the demo:
1. ma-sang-yo-do (yo-do: curved single-edged sword)
2. ma-sang-ssang-gum (ssang-gum: double single-edged swords)
3. ma-sang-ki-chang (ki: horseback; chang: lance, spear)
4. ma-sang-weol-do (weol-do: moon blade, equivalent to European fauchard)
"ma-sang" literally means 'horse-top'. I would translate it into 'equestrian, horseback'.
Fancy horseback archery and equestrian martial arts in Korea?
