The unemployment rate for veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan is higher than the national average, according to one question asked of President Obama at a virtual town hall meeting on Thursday. Obama explained what he was going to do to help veterans get through economic hardship.
We are increasing veterans funding by more than any time in the last 30 years. Were going to make sure that we deal with the backlog that too many veterans experience in terms of getting benefits. Were going to make sure that homeless veterans are receiving housing and services, he explained.
The President said that everyone had a role in helping veterans. If youre a business owner, hiring a veteran, not discriminating against somebody whos a veteran, is going to be absolutely critical, said Obama. In your communities, in your churches, in your neighborhoods, making sure that theres outreach and celebration of veterans when they come home. Thats going to be critical.

We always hope that the President can help veterans get the benefits they deserve. Veterans should be given enough attention.
