The Stevie Nicks song Rock A Little (Go Ahead Lilly) played along with some Mackinac Bridge pictures.

For those of you who don't know, the Mackinac (Mack-IN-aw) Bridge connects the upper and lower penninsuals of Michigan. It corsses the Straits of Mackinac, a 5 mile stretch of water connecting two of the Great Lakes, Lake Michigan to the west and Lake Huron to the east. It is just 28 feet short of 5 miles long. It carries Interstate 75, just 50 miles south of its northern end at the International Bridge at the boarder with Canada at Sault Ste Marie, Michigan.

Prior to the Mackinac Bridge's opening on November 1, 1957, a fleet of ferry boats was used to carry cars, trucks and trains across the Straits.

Ferry boats:
Ariel- 1923
Mackinaw City- 1924
St Igance- 1924
Straits Of Mackinac- 1928
City Of Cheboygan- 1937
City Of Munising- 1938
City Of Petoskey- 1940
Vacationland- 1952

and the MTC (Mackinaw Transportation Company) operated railroad ferries from 1880until the mid-1970s.

MTC Rail ferries:
Algomah- 1880
St Ignace- 1888
St Marie- 1893
Cheif Wawatam- 1911
St Marie (II)- 1913

for more info, watch the videos of Gordon409
to see the car ferries.
I tried to get most of the pictures of winter, but in all of these, there is some kind of coldness at the bridge.

The song "Rock A Little (Go Ahead Lilly)" is from Stevie Nicks 1985 album, Rock A Little. It was song number 2, and produced by Stevie Nicks, Rick Nowels, and Jimmy Iovine.

These pictures are taken from the www.mackinacbridge.org and www.mightymac.org. I didn't really like this song at first, but something about it made me think of the bridge, so I made this video and now I like it a lot.

  • where is mackinaw city?

  • FROM DOWNTOWN DETROIT

Go on I-75 N, and follow it for 289 miles until you reach Mackinaw CIty. It is at the tip of the lower penninsula, by Mackinac (MACKINAW) Island. The bridge+the island+ the straits are spelt different from the city and I have no idea why.

  • Hmm...

This may be well a good album....

  • Great pictures! Thanks for sharing.

  • @Wild1995 I don't know that it was her "weak singing" that sent Jimmy out the door. I would venture to say it was more of a person thing i.e. her erratic behavior or something romantic possible going on between them. I'm not going to diss you because you don't like this album b/c you are entitled to your opinion but I could not disagree more. Also, coked up or not it's still her distinctive voice.

  • @Scorp1982 I never thought of that! It totally should have been on Enchanted but it didn't really fit with the songs she put on here. The first 2 discs are basically her hits and disc 3 is outtakes/b-sides.
