Episode: Malice for Quake
Level: The Genetics Lab (Secret Level)
Secrets: Four
Difficulty: Hard

Marginally better than The Hospital despite the fact that the daft idea of 'a Secret that teleports to nowhere' is still prevalent. Oh well. At least this feels more like a Malice level what with the numerous corridors to scurry my way through like some demented lab rat. There's no bizarre out-of-place crushers or 'shoot-them-until-they-break' walls (alright, there's two but I'll let them slide) but that still doesn't save this level from being a bit of a snorefest.

Indeed, not even the Mini-Sub you acquire from a Secret is enough to make up for this level's shortcomings. The bizarro quirks from the previous level are toned down slightly but there's still some questionable design choices gone into making this level. I'm all for finding hidden switches to open up other parts of a level but sometimes here, it's confusing to know what a particular switch has done when you've shot (or pressed) it. Only by learning this level inside out was I able to finish it. It felt more of a chore to do than anything fun.

Before you all jump down my throat, this ISN'T a terrible level but there is something very uneven about how you progress. Most of it comes down to trial and error if what you're doing is making any impact (something the numerous switches are guilty of). Still, despite all that, it was nice to fight those Swatmen again. It seems all they want to do is to give me a hug even if I've already lined their lungs with lead in the meantime.

Hang on... Lab rat! Genetics Lab! Now I get it! Oh, these excruciatingly bad jokes write themselves...
