Also true, but things change. They may have helped it get to where it is today, but that's a good deal different than saying their fighting style makes MMA what MMA is today.

peltier..jiu jitsu doesnt suck but royce gracie was way over-rated..He had no competition when ufc first started. Noone trained properly for ground attacks. Royce gracie at his best wont beat an average fighter in the ufc right now. Thats why he got pounded by matt hughes, he wasnt anywhere near in his league.

I agree with you. The U.F.C. has a lot of rules, to benefice the stand up fighting, so they can have more tv rating. Without that rules, the grapplers win over the strikes in 90 of 100 fights.

i dont know about all that, i agree that Jiu Jitsu, not necessarily Gracie Jiu Jitsu, will always be needed. But the definition of MMA does not for definite include Jiu Jitsu. As long as you are mixing martial arts, its MMA.

He's old. He's tired. He wasn't ready for it, he's past his prime. The greatest people from all professions all across history come across the same thing, everyone burns out. Matt Hughes is a very good fighter. It doesn't mean Gracie "sucks", for Christs' sake.

A lot of u guys are probably about 20 years old and have zero experience with grappling from the comments I'm reading. Get rid of the stupid modern day UFC rules and grapplers will destroy all these shitty hybrids and stand up fighters with ease.
