Freak da Funk was a soundsystem run by myself and 'hippy' Chris.
Based in the Cambridge, U.K. area, we organised many free and pay parties in non - nightclub venues including a model aeroplane flying clubs meeting place [a big wooden hut in a field!].
Residents included Steve Griffiths [aka Stevie G] / Vigi [of Vigi & Flip fame] / Rev. Damien Thorn and Matty Parker.
Music policy was just good underground dance from deep house to techno to breaks.
'Somewhere in Space' was one of many tracks I recorded that were played out on CD-R at the parties.
A live performance was scuppered by the lack of mains sockets to plug in to!
The track also made number one on the now defunct 'getoutthere.com' mp3 website and through this, was featured on an Australian web-based tv station [also now defunct!].
Somewhere in Space, written, programmed and produced at base.funk studios, bedford by Steve Griffiths.
Influenced by - Soma records, The Bellview 3, Yello, Daft Punk, Wild Pitch, Smokescreen, Coldcut, Splosh!, plus many, many, more.
Sequenced on an AMIGA 1200 using Music-X software.
This track has only one sample, the vocal snippet.
Drums - BOSS DR-770 Drum Machine.
Keys - heavily tweaked Yamaha CS1x through guitar effects pedals.
Basses - Novation Bass Station Rack and Freebass 383 Rack.
Always loved this tune Steve...!!!
