The Vienna Horns chamber music ensemble, founded in 2002, is probably the only one of its kind in the world. Its members are the lead hornists of Austrian orchestras, and they all play exclusively the Vienna Horn in F, an instrument that is used only in Vienna and that is partly responsible for the distinctive Vienna Sound. The ensemble's repertoire includes not only original works, virtuoso arrangements of film music, but also works rooted in unsophisticated Austrian folk culture and temporary compositions that show off the instrument's warm, dark sound.

  • The description claims that they're all playing exclusively on Vienna horns, but I see Wagner Tubas in the still shots...?

  • "exclusively" is regarding the Horns. They don't play French or Double Horns. The Wagner Tubas are a whole different thing...

  • Heard 0:34 to 0:58 a hundred times, but it's still awesome!

  • @DTNSU

I would say in € it's about 4000 to 10000 but if you want to buy one you have to pay tax plus toll so count how much it is :)

  • How much does a Vienna horn cost? In American dollars? Just out of curiosity...I'm a trumpet player but both my parents play horn and I can get around fairly well on one for a trumpeter :)

  • I love the sound of Horn when played professionaly :D

  • 2 Violin player dislike this video !

  • What a great sound! I am a cellist who LOVES the sound of French horns - so golden and noble. I'm going to go to their website and find out more about this group. Speaking of arrangements, I once heard an arrangement of the Scherzo from Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony for 4 horns. It was really quite remarkable. Maybe some of you horn players out there know of it.

  • this is great and all, but have you heard of the guy with the golden voice!!??

  • 1:09 2:09

  • Would sound a lot better without the percussion !
