PORT CARBON (SCHUYLKILL COUNTY), PA: On January 24, 2011 at 20:45 hours the Port Carbon Fire Department, Palo Alto Fire Department (Citizens and East End Fire Companies), Pottsville City Fire Department (Yorkville and Phoenix Fire Companies) and Pottsville EMS were dispatched to 229 Jackson St. in Port Carbon for a working house fire. Port Carbon police and firefighters arrived in a minutes and found smoke coming from a single story house trailer. It appeared the fire was burning in the east end of the trailer in a bedroom.

Port Carbon Engine 59-11 arrived on scene first and searched for a hydrant. Engine 59-11 established a water supply from a hydrant in front of the residence and made an offensive attack to stop the fire. The Port Carbon Engine 59-10 crew deployed a hose line and entered the residence to stop the fire. Palo Alto Engines 616 staged in front of the residence, next to Engine 59-11 and sent their manpower to backup the attack crew. Palo Alto Engine 612 hooked a second hydrant a block east of the residence staged to the rear of the first two attacking engines. The Palo Alto Engine 612 crew deployed a hose line and entered the residence to back up the initial attack hose lines. Port Carbon Engine 59-10 staged a block away from the home at second hit hydrant.

The Pottsville City Phoenix Ladder-Tiller 21 staged west of the home on Jackson Street and sent its crew to the residence to do ventilation work. The Pottsville City Yorkville Rescue 63 responded to the scene and its crews provided RIT operations. Incident Command request the RIT Team and all available manpower staged in front of the home.
The fire was knocked down quickly by the attack crews in ten minutes. The interior crews vented the home of smoke and had the incident under control in twenty minutes. The fire chief believes the fire may have been started intentional and is currently under investigation. The fire chief reported that there was minor injury to then tenant in which he was transported to a local hospital to be checked out. The home received moderate damage and found to uninhabitable at this current time.
