The problem with license servers is that, like with Richard's experience with Bell Labs, coming out of college, I had learned a proprietary 3D package called Wavefront's TAV, when Alias/Wavefront (who SGI had purchased in 1996 and merged together) released Maya they discontinued the licensing of TAV, by discontinuing the issue of keys for the license server. So even if I wanted the software I couldn't purchase it, from anyone. That's when I got Blender 3D, and advocated the use of it by all.

The scholarly addicts argument which is completely off the walls. He invokes this tomfoolery right at the point where most thinking people would switch off, I therefore thought mentioning it would not really be needed.

has anyone done for computing what that one man has?

Plenty.
If it wasn't for the people around him the GPL would be unusable laced with all that RMS craziness. The GPL by itself was not the first FOSS license out there. I'd like you to try and marginalize the Berkeley license for instance. On top of that, there are still things that FOSS can't seem to get right, like consistent gui guidelines. And I would not call Emacs the greatest piece of work ever written either. In other words, he brought nothing new really.

so, without him, linux would still be the same or better?
