How can schools and teachers change to keep up with the current educational landscape, a world in which young people must learn how to ask the right questions, not merely parrot back the 'right' answers? In this urgent and insightful book, John Merrow draws on his experience as a reporter for PBS and NPR to examine this question and others, and offer possibilities and solutions for a new education system. Told through warm storytelling and compelling case studies, Merrow paints a vibrant and inspiring picture of why and how we must transform - not reform - our schools.

“I've come to the frightening conclusioin that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It's my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or de-humanized.” kathyoj Dr. Haim Ginott

YouTube, you need to put timeline content tags that popup when moving a cursor over the buffering bar on videos this long so users can manage content better.

Public schools in the U.S. suck! Children will be enlighten when the last superintendent is strangled from the entrails of the last teacher.

Just ask the question whether we need citizenry capable of critical thinking or we still need factory slaves and ignoramuses in order to control society more easily. Shall we keep insisting on protestant work ethic in a world with less and less slave positions, or freedom and life? Dont wrap it in these stupid shiny foils if you still need desperate idiots moooing for jooobs and raising their stupid flag in ignorance. School as we know it came into existence as a tool to serve industry (owners).
