WorkSafe Awards 2011 Entrant: Peninsula Health

Peninsula Health identified the journey of bariatric patients through health services as a hazard as standard practices and equipment were inadequate. Peninsula Health Workplace Safety & Wellbeing Services have implemented a Bariatric Working Group, developed OHS Guidelines, Risk Management Plan, facilitated development of Safe Operating Procedures, initiated the Bariatric Box (items for first 24HRS), trials of equipment and training of staff. The focus was maintaining a high level of patient dignity, with staff safety being paramount. Other Health Services, WorkSafe, ANF, VicBig have requested we share our learnings, ideas, and documentation and presentations. Our process is reviewed and improved regularly.
